As you plan your New Jersey move, you may notice that many local and long-distance movers offer price estimates. A price estimate provides you with a general sense of how much your services will cost. While this tool can help you budget, not all estimates provide the same benefits.
There are two types of estimates that you may be offered: binding and non-binding pricing. Take a closer look at what these two estimates mean, as well as some related examples, to help you get ready for your upcoming relocation.
Binding Moving Estimates
If a moving company provides you with a binding estimate, they are contractually agreeing to the price they state. This means that you don’t have to worry about them adding on hidden fees that weren’t stated in their agreement. However, this may come at a higher cost so that movers are protected against risk.
For example, a moving company will provide a cost estimate based on all the services you request and off on the size of your move. If you ask them to transport extra items on a moving day, they may have already factored in a buffer to protect themselves from the extra cost.
A binding estimate provides:
- Guaranteed Pricing
- Easier Budgeting
- Risk of Higher Pricing
Non-Binding Moving Estimates
A non-binding moving estimate provides you with an idea of how much their service will be. With this type of estimate, you won’t know the price until after you use their services. Although it’s harder to budget, it allows for more flexibility with time, labor, and materials.
For example, you’ll receive a non-binding estimate based on the services you request. If they arrive on a moving day, and you request extra services, they can raise the price to fit your needs. Unlike the last example, this type of estimate allows for more flexibility but less certainty in the final cost.
A non-binding estimate provides:
- Flexible Pricing
- Lower Initial Pricing
- Uncertain Budgeting
